Every Journey Has a Beginning

I'm really glad you're here.

If you're reading this, you've just become part of Lumera's story, and I'm grateful you decided to stop by.

For a long time, Lumera lived in notebooks, late-night ideas, conversations and quiet prayers. Today, it has a place to call home, and seeing that become a reality is something I don't take for granted.

People often see the finished website, the logo or the project photos. What they don't always see are the small steps that came before them. Every page on this website, every conversation, every lesson and every decision has helped shape what Lumera is becoming.

Our first Grace Programme delivery at Makumbe District Hospital reminded me of something I'll probably keep learning throughout this journey: meaningful work doesn't have to start big. It simply has to start.

Like any first project, there were a few unexpected lessons along the way. Looking back now, I wouldn't change them. They became part of the story, and they reminded me that growth often happens in the moments we didn't plan for.

There's a quote people often say:

“Hope isn't a strategy.”

I understand what they mean.

But I also think hope has an important place. Hope is what gives us the courage to begin. After that, it gently reminds us to roll up our sleeves and get to work.

That's what I want Lumera to be.

This page will be a little different from the rest of the website.

Here, I'll share the journey behind the work—the lessons I'm learning, the moments that stay with me, the occasional smile and, every now and then, the reminder I needed myself.
